Spare key with a human, not just a lockbox

Hurricanes and snowbird rules do not check your flight. Someone local needs to be able to get in.

Florida driver license

Thirty days after you become a resident. Out-of-state license, proof of address, the appointment you already booked.

Register the vehicles / plates

Same office as the license. Bring the VIN. Homestead is a different building.

File homestead with the Property Appraiser

It is not automatic at closing. March 1 matters. A September closing usually means a year at the full millage.

Get the resident rates in writing

Library card, Parks & Rec pool pass, homestead. A 32137 ZIP is not a residency card.

USPS change of address

Banks and magazines will not guess. Do it once, then the rest of the list.

Keep the primary-care appointment

If you only called, you’re not established. Wait lists are real. Show up.

Confirm school assignment (if you have kids)

Zones ignore the lettered map. Two C-section houses can feed different schools. Skip this if it isn’t your life.

Register to vote in Flagler County

You’re a resident now. The Supervisor of Elections is not the Tax Collector and not the Appraiser.

Update banks and subscriptions

Address, phone, the streaming thing still billing Ohio. A boring afternoon that prevents a worse one.
