Palm Coast finally has a dedicated animal emergency hospital. It is not 24 hours on a Tuesday morning. Put the number in your phone the week you arrive — next to the human ER — and know which Animal Control desk covers your street. City of Palm Coast is not the same as Flagler Beach.
We do not rank neighborhood clinics and we do not sell the list. Confirm hours and whether they take your pet insurance before you drive. The pond is not a dog park.
Same-day, not 2 a.m.
Vomiting twice, a limp, an ear that smells, a tooth that can wait until morning. Your regular vet if they’re open. The ER if they’re not and the animal is getting worse.

If it’s 10 a.m. on a Wednesday and the dog is miserable but standing, call the clinic you already use. The ER is for when they’re closed or the animal cannot wait in a lobby. Establish a GP the first month — heartworm is year-round in Flagler, and new-patient wellness slots fill.

Wildlife, heat, and the canal
Alligators
A gator on a pond bank is not an emergency. A gator in the pool, or one threatening a person or a pet, is. Call FWC at 866-392-4286. Do not throw hot dogs. Leash small dogs at dusk. Mating season (spring) puts them on roads and in yards they usually skip.
Heat and cars
Flagler in July is not Ohio in July. A dog in a parked car is a medical emergency, including “just running into Publix.” Shade on a walk is a plan, not a vibe. Beach sand burns paws by late morning.
Toxins that surprise northerners
Sago palm, oleander, lilies (cats), xylitol, grapes, sugar-free gum. If they ate it, call poison control with the bag in your hand, then the ER. Heartworm prevention is every month, every year — mosquitoes do not take January off.

Find a regular vet before you need one
We do not publish a roster of private practices. Ask a neighbor who actually got a new-patient slot, then call. City of Palm Coast licenses dogs and cats — start at Animal Control, 160 Lake Avenue, or the city’s animal-control page. Records and rabies certificates belong in the same folder as the homestead paperwork.
